So, last week I posted about the super amazing health benefits of bone broth and I thought I should give you a really tasty option of what to do with it. Don’t worry if its cold outside… this comforting beef broth will warm you right up!
As I’ve mentioned before, I mostly avoid red meat during the week but Bone broth has so many health benefits for your gut it makes too much sense to include it. Broth contains healing compounds such as collagen, glutamine, proline and glycine that heal and seal your gut. It also contains a full punch of Minerals and vitamins such as calcium, phosphorus and silicon which all come in a form that our bodies can easily absorb.
With 80% of your immune system located in the gut and more and more research indicating that a lot of health problems such as IBS, thyroid issues, depression, arthritis, skin problems and autoimmune diseases all originate from a poorly functioning intestinal tract. We need to start making sure we take care of our gut! You can start to have issues with hyperpermiability long before any symptoms arise so it just makes good sense to give yours some love now!
This drink also contains Miso which is another great fermented food. I generally avoid soy due to the high proportions of genetically modified plants now (around 94% of Soy in the US alone is GM). The production processes used to optimise the output of Soy have also contributed to soy products being linked to issues with the thyroid and certain cancers. The difference with Miso is that the organically grown soy along with the fermentation process, transforms it into a totally different product.
Miso is full of probiotics (good bacteria) which helps repopulate your gut with the good guys and kicks out the bad bacteria that are damaging your gut lining. This Miso broth not only helps to heal and seal but contributes to repopulating your gut flora…so it’s a double whammy of healthy goodness!
Make sure you buy miso that is unpasturised, fermented and organic so you get the full benefits and no added nasties. You can make your own broth such as my beef bone broth here or buy it from farms where you know it has been produced in the same way you would at home like Coombe farm.
